San Ramon Regional Medical Center was left off the list.
John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek?has once again earned high honors?in?U.S. News and World Report's?annual rankings of hospitals across the nation.
The medical facility on Ygnacio Valley Road was?ranked as the?seventh best hospital in California by the magazine.?It was also listed as the second best hospital in the Bay Area.
John Muir Medical was ranked in the top 40 nationally in gastroenterology, geriatrics, gynecology and orthopedics.
John Muir's facility in Concord was ranked 11th in the state.?It was also third in the Bay Area.
Both the Walnut and Concord facilities received favorable rankings in last year's survey, too.
Other hospitals in the region were not on the magazine's national or state?list. Those omitted?include San Ramon Regional Medical Center and ValleyCare Health System?in Pleasanton.
U.C. San Francisco Medical Center?received top honors in the Bay Area. It also?tied for the No. 7 spot on the national list with?New York-Presbyterian University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell, N.Y.?
UCSF Medical Center also ranked No. 2 among California hospitals, a rating it shared with Stanford Hospital?in Palo Alto. UCLA Medical Center was ranked number one.
The rankings, now in their 24th year, cover nearly 5,000 medical centers across the country and span?16 medical specialties, from cancer to neurology and neurosurgery.
Hospitals that rank near the top of at least six specialties earn a spot on the Honor Roll. Only 18 distinguished hospitals made this year's list, with UCSF Medical Center among that elite group,?the?Huffington Post?reported.
