La Familia Muzik - Greetings Earthlings. 5 squares: A collaboration of Florida-based dance music producers, rappers and singers.

Reviewed by Andy Cooper

La Familia Muzik is a collective of electronic dance music producers, rappers and singers from Florida, USA. They give you 21 tracks spread across two CDs here. It's a nicely unified and polished sound throughout, with good vocal performances from the likes of Ryan Horton and Adam Gilley and a full musical mix that journeys through a variety of electronic speeds and styles. However, the album was originally produced back in 2010 and the sounds have dated fast. But a bigger issue is with the songwriting: the melodies lack direction while the lyrics lack focus. In fact, you have to skip to the fourth track before anything remotely hummable can be detected. Of course a good rap doesn't need a tune, but it needs a rhyme and a reason. And the lyrics either don't carry a clear enough message or become more repetitive than a washing machine full of soccer kit. These guys have talent, so I hope they can return after skilling up their songwriting chops.
