Drink Recipe: Honey Lemonade
The first time I went to the Minnesota State Fair, it was an eye opening event to say the least. Growing up in Queens, New York, and then on Long Island, the closest thing I?d ever experienced to it was the Nassau County Fair, which was a small parking lot with fold up rides, a corn dog stand, and a couple of chickens inexplicably hanging out in a hay laden stall. It was quite pathetic, really. But the State Fair? It?s life- (and waist-) changing. No, really.
The Fair is 320 acres (!!!) of prize winning animals, rides, and most importantly: Fair Food. Over the next few days, I?m going to be sharing recipes inspired by the State Fair (some more literal than others) as we count down to the Fair opening on August 23. Expect to see some food on a stick, since that?s what the Minnesota State Fair is known for!
Homemade lemonade is a staple of the Minnesota State Fair, and it?s something I look forward to every year. In the scorching summer heat ? Minnesota is a state of weather extremes! ? it?s so refreshing. Lately, a few stands have been offering lemonade sweetened with local honey. Since I was pregnant during the Fair last year, I wasn?t able to partake (boo!), but I can?t wait to try it this year. In the meantime, I developed an awesome recipe to hold me over!
Ingredients
- ? cup honey
- 3 cups hot water
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice
- ? cup sugar
Instructions
In a heatproof bowl, combine the hot water, honey, and sugar. Stir until the honey and sugar have dissolved. Set the sugar and honey mixture aside to cool slightly, then add the lemon juice and stir to distribute. Refrigerate and serve.
