Yorkshire wait on injured duo ? Cricket News Update
Yorkshire are keen to monitor the injured pace duo of Ryan Sidebottom and Moin Ashraf before making a final call on whether to replace them for the team?s upcoming, must win Champions League T20 game against Highveld Lions, their coach Jason Gillespie confirmed.
After convincingly booking their passage to the tournament proper, the English county outfit struggled to make an impact in their opening game of Group B, routed by Sydney Sixers on a lowly 96. Their misery was further compounded after they watched the opposition chase down the target in just 8.5 overs.
Their next game against Mumbai Indians last night was abandoned after rain intervened during the first half of the game. The IPL franchise had reached to 156 for 6 in 17. 5 overs before weather forced a complete washout.
A point for each side meant that both will now need to win their final two games in order to progress to the next stage. For Yorkshire, the situation is unwelcoming considering the injury woes at their disposal after both of their front-line bowlers limped off during the match.
Sidebottom left the field after bowling his second over; however, returned back to bowl one more. As for Ashraf, he tweaked his hamstring after bowling just three balls, forcing Adam Lyth, the part-time off-spinner, to complete the remaining deliveries.?
Both are facing a race against time to get fit for the clash against Lions tomorrow, and despite having the likes of Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Ian Wardlaw on the bench, Gillespie said that a final call will be made after consultation with the physio. ?
"I'll have to speak to Scott McAllister our physio, but at this stage we're just going to monitor the progress of both of them," Gillespie said of Sidebottom and Ashraf. "Ryan came back out to bowl, so we're quietly confident that he'll be ok. He'll probably be a little bit stiff and sore, but he should be ok.
"Early signs at the moment, it looks like Moin's tweaked his hamstring. But we'll just let it settle down in the next 24 hours, and then Scott can have a really good look at it, and then make a decision from there."?
