TERRE HAUTE, Indiana ? Terre Haute's parks department has received about $1 million in a settlement with a chemical company over damage that a weed killer caused to dozens of trees at a city golf course.
The city was preparing to join a class-action lawsuit against DuPont Co. over the herbicide Imprelis until reaching the settlement. The Tribune-Star reports (http://bit.ly/18WdOmz ) the city attorney says nearly 90 trees were damaged at the Rea Park golf course.
City officials plan to use the money to remove and replace the trees, with any remaining money going into a new fund for park projects.
The Environmental Protection Agency ordered DuPont to halt sales of Imprelis in 2011 because of complaints that it was damaging trees, particularly evergreens such as Norway spruce and white pine.
